More and more nowadays we are wanting to send files, videos, images, etc to our family and friends. The problem with email is that there is a cap on the amount that you can send to people. But say you want to send a whole picture album to family members. It can be a pain to try and send files to them. This post will be about some different ways to send large files to the people you want to. To warn you, this is more my opinion on how to send large files rather than this being the only way to send them. I use this method all the time and have had great results. Some people may have better ways, but I think this is the most efficient.
Okay, so now that, that is out of the way, the one way that I have gotten pictures, documents, and other files to people that I need to is to create a short link for them. Some of you may be wondering “short link”, what is that? Well, there are several applications out there that you can create web links to your files. Let me show you what I am talking about. The app that I will be showing you is called CloudApp. There are others out there, but I found this one to be the best.
The first thing you are going to want to do is download the CloudApp menu bar app. Then you find the files that you want to now let others see. What you do is then drag and drop the file onto the CloudApp cloud menubar app.
The file will now be uploaded to the CloudApp website. And you will also be given a link to the actual file that is now on the web. You can now share this link to others that you want to see the file. You can also go online and manage your files that you have uploaded to CloudApp.
As you can see from the screenshot above, you can upload just about anything, files, pictures, video, audio, etc. And the best part about this is that this app is free. Although it does come with some limitations of uploading 10 files a day and a 25 mb cap per file. If you are worried about security you can make links private or public, whatever you decide. There are also iPhone apps that run CloudApp so you can now see your files that you have uploaded onto the site or you can also upload files from your iPhone to the site as well.
So why use something like this? Well, it is very easy to use and it really takes out the hassle of having to figure out how you are going to send some of your bigger files to others. Also, it is so easy to share documents between computers as well. For example, if there is a file on my Mac that I want to access at work, where I don’t have a Mac. I can upload the file to CloudApp and I can use any web browser to access CloudApp to get the file. So now it frees me up from having being tied down to a computer, and I can just access files from the web. Another reason is that if my wife has a large photo that she wants to send out to a customer, she can use this and send the person a short link and not have to worry if the file will send or if they can access the image.
So what do you think? Would you use something like this? Would it be helpful?
