I’m a big fan of Trello, I’ve been using it now for 2 years or more as our main project management tool over at The DMA. Its free form style allows you to determine exactly how you’d like to set it up and use it in your business. Every other project management tool that I’ve used dictates to you the way it needs to work.
For our WordPress Projects we have each one setup as a card in Trello then they move through the various stages ( each a Trello list) of our process; wireframing, graphic design, custom development etc.. We can comment, set due dates, attach files and it works really well.
Better yet, when someone new joins our team, they just get it. There’s no training or orientation that is required to get them to jump right into the mix.
Then a while back I was listing to an episode of the Matt Report (a WordPress podcast) where he mentioned this idea of using Trello in place of a CRM system.
Instantly I was convinced!
For the same reason, I was using a CRM tool to capture leads but it had so many fields, so much clutter that I didn’t want. Putting new leads into Trello and then being able to categories them using a Trello list made a lot of sense.
And so a plugin was created…
I love Gravity Forms, we have developed a lot of solutions for customers using it and created add ons for it. It’s very sophisticated in what it does, yet is very approachable for the average use to get in there and build forms. Of course we use it where we have a contact form so what was required was to get those form entries to be automatically inserted into Trello as a new card.
The Trello API allows for all sorts of interactions so on top of just inserting a card, we were able to let the user configure which board the form entries should go to as well as selecting the list.
Building a tool like this is always so much easier when you have a need for it yourself, you become the customer and think about the various use cases more easily.
So if you’re a Trello user and you use WordPress, you just might like to check out this cool little add-on for Gravity Forms.
