There are so many WordPress plugins available, you’d honestly think that ever niche has been filled. However when working with WordPress on a daily basis, building sites for clients, we still regularly come across things that haven’t been done.
Today we’ve launched a new WordPress plugin and it is indeed build from the fact that we needed this tool to solve a problem for a client. In fact, not just one. Now that we have the plugin done, looking back at a snap shot of our WordPress sites it’s plain to see that we could have used it in a lot of them.
So, what does it do?
For a while now, WordPress has had the functionality to associate a featured image with a page or post. Then if the theme supports it the featured image is displayed alongside that post.
Featured Images for Categories is all about adding the same kind of functionality but for categories, tags and custom taxonomies.
When adding or editing a category / tag / custom taxonomy the plugin gives you the option to add a featured image, in exactly the same way you do for a page or post.
Then on the front end of your WordPress site, there is a few options for displaying a gallery of all your featured images (from categories etc.. ) and they’ll link through to the archive page for that term.
