As much as I love my Mac, I really don’t like iCal. Yes it has got some good calendar features, but to be honest, it doesn’t stand up to Google Calendar. With Google Calendar stored in the cloud, it makes it so easy to access from any device. Whereas, iCal is only available on your specific Mac. I don’t like that. Especially when I am sharing calendars with my wife. Sometimes, I just wished that Google Calendar and iCal, would somehow play nice. Well, they actually have for quite a while now. It just takes some work on your part, and it really isn’t that hard to set up. Let me show you how.
The first thing you need to do is open up iCal. Then, click the iCal tab, then click on “Preferences”. Once there, click on the “Accounts” tab.
Here you will set up your Google Calendar. Click on the + button in the bottom left corner to add your Google account. Then you are going to want to fill in your Google account information to set up your calendar.
When you are done with this. You will see that your personal Google Calendar will now show up on iCal. Now, if you are like me, you have multiple calendars on Google Calendar. Don’t fret if you don’t see them show up. If you only have one calendar, then you are now done. But, if you have more calendars, you will need to follow one more step. You are going to want to click on the Delegation tab in your Google account in iCal. Here you will see all of your different Google Calendars. You can check the ones that you want to show up in your iCal.
Once you are done with this step, you will find that all your calendars will now show up on iCal. The nice part about this is that now whenever you make a change to Google Calendar or iCal, the two will stay in sync with each other. This has come in very handy for me. I hope it comes in handy for you.
